Let’s make this easy. There are three things that have the greatest impact on your credit score. They are:
- The length of your credit history. Not much you can do here. It is what it is.
- Your payment history. Miss too many payments, and your credit score will sink like a rock.
- Too much debt relative to your available credit.
The good news is that your score can be improved, but it’s going to take time and effort. Check your score periodically and correct any errors noted. Pay on time, every time. Keep credit utilization relatively low. Don’t borrow to the limit. Pay off the smallest balances first and proceed to the next highest balance.
If you’re behind on debt payments, and cannot seem to catch up, perhaps we can help. Keep in mind that bankruptcy is not necessarily the answer and there may be other ways to get you back on track without a significant hit to your credit score.
