Charlie Munger of Berkshire Hathaway fame is fond of saying that a powerful way to solve problems is to invert.  For example, if you want to learn how to end poverty in India, ask yourself first how to make poverty more widespread.  Sometimes, the inverted form of question makes it easier to solve the problem.
